Vegan Steak With Bread Sauce

Image
By McDonald, T.   |  Date 27th of February 2021 Vegans have no need to go without a steak!  This steak from Vivera is brilliant and so tasty.  On the downside, the plastic is not yet recycled.  However, this is a really good stake and makes a great meal. This dinner would be better with a vegan peppercorn sauces, but I couldn't find a vegan one in time so I used bread sauce instead.  Next time I will make my own peppercorn sauce or have it with gravy and vegan horseradish sauce.  The instructions said to fry in oil for 8 minutes. Add some veg and chips with it and you have a tasty dinner to please most people.  I noticed that this steak fries well in a pan with either garlic or chilli infused oil.  Most noticeably, the steak is firm and has great texture for those that miss the texture of meat. Hope you like this blog. Please leave a comment and subscribe.

Meals for Lent

Image
Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 24th of February 2021    Lent is a period of fasting and repentance.  Sometimes people give up something that they like as an offering to God and in order to spend more time with God in prayer.  For most of us, the fast means one meal with two small snacks that wouldn't make a meal if added together. Meal ideas for Lent Since the idea is to keep meals simple, i have stuck with how my Nan taught me, which is no eggs or dairy throughout the duration of Lent.  For us vegans, this means no egg or dairy alternatives and no mock meats on Wednesday and Friday.  However, many will just stick to eating less and giving up something. Latin Fried Potato Salad This is one of my favourite meals.  Full of flavour goodness and taste.  This is a light meal that will keep you going through the day. Caramelised Apple And Tempeh Basic dish that you can add to with veg and potato or even pasta if you need.  A very light meal for lent that has good levels of protein

Vegan Pancakes For Shrove Tuesday

Image
Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 17th of February 2022  Pancake day is almost here, yay!  But now you are a vegan and you want to know how to make vegan pancakes.  Well, it is very straight forward and easy and I have two classic recipes for you depending on if you like your pancakes thin with lemon or fat with fruit.  Before we get started, what is Pancake day and why is it called Shrove Tuesday? Shrove Tuesday This is the day before Ash Wednesday, is in preparation for Lent and the subsequent fasting.  For some this period of fasting will mean simple eating with no meat, fat, sugar, dairy, eggs, or some luxury.  Shrove Tuesday is about repenting of sins before starting lent.  Notably, people would make pancakes as a way to use up any eggs, milk, and sugar that they had in the house before the solemn season of Lent.  However, since we are vegan, we don't have dairy anyway.  Nevertheless, giving up dairy alternatives would be a great thing to do during Lent.  Thin with lemon (En

Why I Fast Every Wednesday And Friday

Image
Written by McDonald, T.   |  Updated 18th of February 2021    Fasting has always been apart of Christian and Jewish life.  Jesus said that people would fast when He was not with us in body and we do.   I eat only bread on Wednesday and Friday every week.  I have done this for nearly a year now after i saw a video on YouTube by a Nun called  Sister Emmanuel Maillard .   The guidelines to the fast are as follows: Eat bread only Drink water only No fasting on feast days or if you are ill No genuine medical reason for not fasting Must be of fasting age 18 to 59 I can eat as much bread as i need and drink as much water as i need.  I must admit the just sticking to water is difficult and so sometimes i will have a cup of tea, but i always stick to just having bread although sometimes i will eat more of it than others. When i say just bread, i mean just bread and no butter or spread. Why fast? Spending quality time with God brings peace to our hearts and the world Inviting the Holy Spirit in

6 Vegan Meals For That Special Man In Your Life

Image
By McDonald, T.   |  Date 11th of February 2021 You are vegan and you boyfriend is not: what do you cook for him? This is a dilemma that i have seen popping up a lot.  The problem is how do you cook a vegan meal that a regular meat eater will love?  1. Vegan pasty, chips and veg .  There are two makes that i have tried: Fry's and Gingster.  Both have a light pasty pastry that is just like or even better than non-vegan pastry.  I have seen two types of Ginster vegan pasty: Moroccan and Quorn.  Both are great, but the Moroccan one does it for me.  Have the pasty with some chunky chips, veg or beans.  This is a satisfying meal to impress your meat eating man without leaving him disappointed.  2. Chili con frijoles or vegan Chili con carne  While Chili con carne means chilli with meat, Chili con frijoles means chilli with beans.  Being a versatile dish it's options are to serve with rice, over a jacket potato or even over chips.  If you opt for the jacket potato, you have a choice

Vegan Rodeo Burger

Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 8th of February 2021    When you just need a burger, but want to keep it vegan, this is a classic that never fails. Easy to whip up and so tasty! Yes I love this burger because it's a proper man's burger with lashings of spicy BBQ sauce.  What to do A vegan roll Your favourite vegan burger (I like plant Chef)   Vegan onion rings (i used free from) Vegan mayo French brown mustard Jalapeno peppers  Vegan cheese Cook the burger in you favourite way, which for me is in the frying pan. I also like the fry the roll for a bit too.  I find it is a good idea to add the vegan cheese to the top of the burger once it is almost ready and still in the pan so the vegan cheese melts nice. Bake the onion rings in the oven with your favourite chips.  I like to spread the French mustard on the bottom part of the roll and put the BBQ sauce and vegan mayo on the top part of the roll.  Put everything in the roll and serve with chip and some salad. Please share, lik

Are You Impulsive?

Image
By McDonald, T.   |  Updated 8th of February 2021    Many people allow their subconscious to bully them around, making demands and expecting those demands to be met immediately.  It will fill the mind with sensations and images in order to manipulate the conscious mind into action.  If we allow the body to control the mind and be at the whim of the body, we are said to be impulsive. The body only knows it has needs. Sometimes it's useful for a person to respond to instincts say when reflex reactions save a person from harm.  However, we hear all the time about impulse buying and eating on impulse and they are never linked to anything positive.  People get into debt and lose control of their weight.  It can get worse if people give into other temptations leading to wrecked marriages or relationships and even addictions.  The Body Wants Gratification Without Thinking Of Consequences With this in mind, and if we continue with the mind and body as two separate entities analogy, the mi

Caramelised Apple and Tempeh

Image
By McDonald, T.   |  Date 5th of February 2021  I love being a vegan because it gets me trying new things and this is definitely different.  It makes a great snack or side dish to support your main meal.  The apple is juicy and succulent going perfectly with the tender leak.  Just look at that apple, so tenter and sweet.  I feel that garnishing with basil really complements the flavours of this unusual dish.  Being a vegan is one of the best things you can do for yourself and this planet so why not give this dish a try and share it with your friends. Ingredients Apple Tempeh Leak Chilli pepper Sultanas  For marinade  Olive oil Cider vinegar Teriyaki Garlic granules Water   Method Cut the tempeh into slices and put into of tub with a lid.  Add the marinade and leave for 2 hours of more.  Heat up a frying pan and fry the marinaded tempeh with the sliced apple and sliced leak until the tempeh starts to golden.  Add some of the marinade to create steam and add the sultanas and chipped c
