How I Veganised Klingon Cuisine

Image
Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 25th of October 2021 If you are a Trekkie, you should have a look at this.  I veganised a whole Klingon feast!  This has got really good food ideas that I still use today, so if you are a vegan and looking for a bit of Star Trek fun or food ideas for your Trekkie party, look no further because this is it! Abstract After watching many episodes of Star Trek i decided to investigate and try to make an authentic Klingon dinner.  However, since i am a vegan and cater for a Christian vegan audience, i had to consider appropriate constraints such as no meat, eggs or dairy and try to keep it healthy too.  With this in mind, i wondered if it was at all possible to create such a meal.  I searched the internet looking for suitable resources and found them although the sources where limited.  Despite the lack of suitable sites, the ones i did find where very helpful.  For instance, i discovered several Klingon dishes and even a vegetable one called Gladst, As

Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 20th of July 2021         If you are looking for something different or you are just an out and out Trekkie, this dish is for you! Bregit lung is a Klingon dish that is meant to be chunks of lizard, but since i am vegan, i will be using tofu instead.  You can have it on its own or with something else the choice is yours. I like mine with Gagh and veg. This is a dish best served with Grapok sauce. Serves 2 Ingredients  200g of tofu Cumin x 2 tsp Paprika x 2 tsp Cornflour x 2 tsp Salt x 2 dashes Method  Prepare the tofu by pressing it overnight.   Cut tofu into bite size cubes.  Add other ingredients to a bowl then add the tofu pieces.  Toss the tofu around until coated, see figure 1.  Add a little oil and toss around some more.  Place in a backing dish in the middle of an oven preheated to 200 C  and bake for 25 - 30 minutes.  Once ready, leave to cool for 1 minute.    Serve with Grapok sauce.  Dip the Bregit lung into the Grapok sauce and enjoy!

Grapok Sauce

By McDonald, T.   |  Date 19 of July 2021 This is a very tasty little dip that has been inspired by Star Trek.  It have a smoky BBQ flavour and is great for dipping tofu or vegan nuggets. A sauce ideal for Bregit lung . Ingredients BBQ sauce x 3 tbsp Cider vinegar x 2 tbsp Tomato paste x 1 tbsp Soy sauce x 1 tbsp Hot water x 50 ml Method Measure out all the ingredients into a small dipping sauce bowl and mix with a spoon.  Achieving the correct viscosity to the sauce is important because you do not want the sauce to run off the Bregit lung when it is dipped into it.  Neither do you want to think a sauce; you should be able to poor the sauce onto the food.  Aim for a thick gravy like viscosity but thinner than ketchup. I hope you decide to give this a try. If you do, please let me know how it turned out in the comments or on twitter.  Please like, share with your friends and subscribe.

Gladst

Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 9th of July 2021  This is great for stuffing in something like a bell pepper. Very tasty dish that has its origins in Star Trek.  It is great on its own, but is better as a side dish to complement your feast. Serves 2 Ingredients  Mushrooms x 60g Aborigine x 70g Onion x 1/4 Cranberries x 1 x tbsp Garlic x 2 cloves Nutritional yeast x 1 tsp Balsamic vinegar x 1 tsp Soy sauce x 3 tbsp Method Heat a frying pan to a medium heat and add some oil. Dice all of the veg ingredients, add to the frying pan and stir. Mix all of the wet ingredients together and poor into the frying pan.  This will result in a lot of steam, which is good, but now you need to put the lid on to keep the steam in.  Add the nutritional yeast with B12. Keep checking every minute and stir.  Add more liquid if it starts to dry out.  Once the veg has softened, turn the heat off. You can add spinach or kale to the recipe to give it more nutrition if you want.  I hope you decide to give t

Subsequently, i and many others noticed a Bajoran food called hasperat in Deep Space Nine.  Although it is not clear what Hasperat is, this is my interpretation of this classic DS9 food.  If you want to know how i arrived at this recipe, please read my report on it titled, Rebel Region Hasperat Wraps: the report. Written by McDonald, T.   |  Date 24th of May 2021    Hasperat is a favourite of the Bajoran in Star Trek DS9.  Being a Star trek fan, naturally, i want to eat it a lot.  Some people say it is a stew while others say it is like a burrito, but everyone claims it is spicy.  This recipe is for the burrito and is low in package waste.  If you can get lettuce or baby spinach without the waste then by all means add it. Ingredients  Spice Hummus Cucumber Bell pepper Created carrot  Orange White cabbage Onion Method Made the home made hummus. How the make Hummus . Spread some hummus down the middle of the tortilla and add the veg and salad   Now fold the bottom up and one of the sides over  Now put some more hummus on the side you have just folded over and fold again. Keep folding until done. Now enjoy your Hasperat! As you can see it is very easy and is tasty too! Please like, subscribe and share with your friends.
